Outdoor Recreation & Education

The outdoor recreation & education program is based on a 25 acre parcel of woodland on Thomas Pond in Raymond, Maine. There, we use the natural environment to teach outdoor skills, service learning, leadership skills and concepts in environmental stewardship.

The program teaches academics using the outdoor context as impetus for learning. Students learn to sail, kayak, climb, hike, mountain bike and more. They also engage in property maintenance using heavy equipment. Students are encouraged to participate in community service projects such brush clean-up and snow removal.

Our hope is that students learn self-confidence and have increased academic success through the compelling nature of the outdoor activities as well and the individualized nature of the instruction.
